You will not believe what a fantastic crochet pattern shop I’ve found on Etsy! There are so many amazing patterns there. I literally want to make them all! If you don’t know the Amour Fou shop yet, you will soon see what I am talking about.
I am really excited that Carla Mitrani from Argentina took her time to answer my questions. She is the founder of the AmourFouCrochet Etsy shop. You must check it out. There are 52 astonishing patterns, from Iconic Women to Iconic Men, to Book and Movie characters, to Christmas dolls. I know you will want to make them all like I do. 🙂Carla is a journalist and TV Producer from Buenos Aires, Argentina – the land of Tango, Lionel Messi, and Dulce de Leche…
She loves reading and can’t get enough of Jane Austen and other romantic classics. She is a happy mother of two boys.
Carla says that crocheting has become her obsession. When her kids are in bed and house is in order, she lets herself go in a world of yarn.
Read the interview below, and get to know Carla better.
1. How did it all begin? Tell us your story.
It all began about 8 years ago. I took a crochet workshop taught by Yan (the creative genius behind Pica Pau) and I’ve never stopped since. Crochet has become my therapy, my compass. I do have a job that has nothing to do with this, plus two kids, a husband, a house, a pet… so I’m all day waiting, hoping, for those moments in which I can sit and crochet. I love it. It has changed my life. It keeps me alert and creative, always in the lookout for something new to design.
2. What inspires you?
Anything can inspire me: books, movies, TV series, conversations with my mom, watching my boys play, a particular artist, a crazy anecdote. This is why I’m always taking notes or doing drawings in little bits of paper I find in my bag.
3. How does your every day look like?
Well, I used to have a life in which my kids went to school, so I worked from home in my job (I’m a TV producer for a weekly talk show on Politics) and my crochet patterns, but since the pandemic, my whole life has gone topsy turvy. Now I homeschool my kids, cook a lot, clean, work and pray to have some time to crochet. This happens mostly at night, so I go the bed really REALLY late.
4. What is your favorite yarn?
Cotton without a doubt. It’s the only type of yarn I use. Acrylic or wool make my hands sweat. I love the finish and feel of cotton, plus it builds a sturdier fabric for stuffed dolls.
5. Do you have any advice for other sellers?
Yes, always be true to yourself and follow your heart. Crocheting what you believe people will like will only lead you down the path of disappointment. Crochet only what makes you happy and, ultimately, that happiness will be seen and appreciated by others. And if they don’t, who cares? At least you had a great time doing what you love best and you should be proud about it.
What a fantastic advice Carla gave us – crochet only what makes you happy! <3 You can really feel her love for crocheting and tributing iconic people in her patterns.
I am so grateful Carla took her time to talk to me. I know she is swamped, especially in this crazy pandemic times when everybody’s world was turned upside down.
If you are like me and want to make all of Amour Fou dolls, I recommend you to buy – Crochet Iconic Women: Amigurumi patterns for 15 women who changed the world. You can pre-order it on Amazon here. It will be published on October 13, 2020. I can’t wait to get it.
