I have found the cutest crochet pattern shop for babies on Etsy. If you want to make baby loveys, rattles, or pacifier clips, then you must check out YarnWaveShop, you will love it.
Banga Vaicekauskienė, the creator of YarnWaveShop, is a young mother who loves to create hand made toys for her little baby girl. She is from Alytus, Lithuania.
According to her Instagram profile, she is an artist, a nature lover, owner of a cat and a dog.
I fell in love with her rattle patterns the moment I first saw them. When you’ll see the photos, you will too. I have made the bunny, and the next rattle on my to-do list is the cat. Banga’s designs are easy to follow, and the best thing is you can make a fantastic baby shower gift in a very short time. You can find such adorable amigurumi patterns in her shop too.
Banga is so kind she offered a special 15% discount for my readers. Here is the code: BESTCROCHET15
Make sure you follow YarnWaveShop on Instagram too (https://www.instagram.com/yarnwave/); you can find some sweet free patterns there.
Before you run off to crochet her adorable patterns, read Banga’s interview below, and get to know her a little better. I’m sure you will love her inspiring story.
1. How did it all begin? Tell us your story.
I was born in a family of artists. I’ve been into many kinds of arts and crafts my whole life. No one ever taught me how to crochet so I found this hobby later, when I was a student. I fell in love with making amigurumi toys and found it very relaxing after busy days.
My journey as an amigurumi designer began 1,5 year ago when I became a mom. I wanted to make some toys for my baby girl but this time I wanted something special, something from my heart. So instead of following somebody else’s pattern I created my first design of an elephant rattle. I loved how it turned and what was the most important I really loved the creative process!
I received many compliments and even orders from other moms and then I decided to write the pattern down. I didn’t expect anything when I created my first listing on Etsy, but I kept on creating new toys and eventualy my hobby became a small business.
2. What inspires you?
I’ve been a creative person for as long as I can remember myself and I don’t really know where does it come from. Most of the time I have way more ideas than time to fulfill them. The desire to create my own toys appeared with the motherhood so I could say that my baby girl is the greatest inspiration to me.
3. How does your every day look like?
I am currently on maternity leave, so being a mom is my full time job now. Most of the time I am cooking, housekeeping, playing and taking long walks. But as soon as my girl falls asleep I grab my crochet hook. I tend to lose track of time when I crochet and find myself working late at nights. I love weekends, when my husband is at home and I have more time to work on my projects.
4. What is your favorite yarn?
I love working with DK weight cotton yarn. My favorite brands are Scheepjes Catona and Alize Bahar. I am not picky though and I can work with any other cotton yarn if it fits my 2 mm crochet hook.
5. Do you have any advice for other sellers?
- Check for errors 10 times before publishing your pattern – there is nothing worse than finding an error after some people have already bought it.
- Do not hesitate to spend extra time or money for beautiful pictures – you want your toy to be represented in the best way possible.
- Do not compare yourself to other designers and do not try to make certain toys just because you think they would be popular. Create something that you really like and that brings joy to your life instead.
- Find your own style, stay original and positive.
I am so grateful Banga took her time to answer my questions. I know how busy life on maternity leave can be, especially when you have a successful Etsy shop to run too.
I find it so inspiring how a new baby can completely change your life – and not just that you become a mother, but also inspires you to build a career around your new life.
