While St. Patrick’s Day is now associated with wearing green, parades (when they’re not canceled), and beer, the holiday is grounded in history that dates back more than 1,500 years. The earliest known celebration was held on the 17th of March, 1631, marking the anniversary of the death of St. Patrick in the 5th century. The First pattern I want to show you is Love Gnome Crochet Pattern.

 St Patrick Gnome Pattern is a Tapestry Crochet Blanket and Pillow pattern. You get the instructions to make both. But I would suggest that you use a bigger yarn and hook size to make a blanket.

Believe it or not, the color of St. Patrick was not green, but blue! In the 19th century, however, green became used as a symbol for Ireland. There is plentiful rain and mist in Ireland, so the ‘Emerald Isle’ really is green all year-round. The beautiful green landscape was probably the inspiration for the national color.

Wearing the color green is considered an act of paying tribute to Ireland. It is said that it also brings good luck, especially when worn on St. Patrick’s Day. Many long years ago, playful Irish children began the tradition of pinching people who forgot to wear green on St. Patrick’s Day, and the tradition is still practiced today. So make sure you wear green on the 17th of March!

One of the traditional symbols of Saint Patrick’s Day is the Shamrock.

“Shamrock” is the common name for several different kinds of three-leafed clovers native to Ireland.

The Shamrock was chosen Ireland’s national emblem because of the legend that St. Patrick had used it to illustrate the doctrine of the Trinity. The Trinity is the idea that God is really three-in-one: The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit.

Patrick demonstrated the meaning of the Three-in-One by picking a shamrock from the grass growing at his feet and showing it to his listeners. He told them that God is one entity with three Persons, just as the Shamrock is one leaf with three parts.

The Irish have considered shamrocks as good-luck symbols since earliest times, and today people of many other nationalities also believe they bring good Luck. 

Feel Lucky Every Day!

Here is another reminder that you are Lucky every day. Because Luck is Believing you are Lucky, and what you believe you receive. Sometimes we just need to remember just how Lucky we really are. Get the pattern for the Lucky Blanket and a Pillow here. 

The horseshoe is probably one of the most well-known good luck and protection symbols of the Western world. It has become a very superstitious symbol dating very far back to a blacksmith and his dealings with the devil.

Stories and legends about horseshoe symbol meaning and the charm’s connection to Luck abound, beginning with an ancient European tale. The horseshoe’s crescent shape represents moon goddesses, who protected believers from the evil eye and provided them with good fortune.

Another well-known Symbol of Luck is a four-leaf clover.

Hundreds of years ago in Ireland, the four-leaf clover became a symbol of Luck, with the four leaves representing faith, hope, love, and success.

 The Druids (Celtic priests), in the early days of Ireland, believed that when they carried a three-leaf clover or Shamrock, they could see evil spirits coming and have a chance to escape in time. Four-leaf clovers were Celtic charms, presumed to offer magical protection and ward off bad Luck. Children in the Middle Ages believed if they carried a four-leaf clover, they would be able to see fairies.

Did you know that there are approximately 10,000 three-leaf clovers for every “lucky” four-leaf clover? You are very Lucky because you will find two below. 🙂
