Today I want to introduce to you Holly Faith Salzman; she is from El Paso, Texas, United States. Holly is the creator of the Storyland Amis Etsy shop.

I am sure you heard of her brand; if not, I am sure you have seen her work. In her store, you can find 57 different amigurumi patterns, from pocket to cuddle size animals, to leprechauns, to beautiful Christmas toys.

Holly says that before she releases each pattern, she makes sure she loves it and that she is proud of it. And that she keeps us in mind, too, when she is designing, she is making sure that every design is easy to understand and crochet.

Holly is so lovely, she gave a special discount only for the readers of my blog. You can use the code CREATE10 to get 10% off any pattern! Make sure you check out her store here: Storyland Amis

Holly started her shop, Storyland Amis, in 2015. She always loved to design even before she knew how to crochet. She would draw all the time or design knitted dishcloths. Then her sister taught her how to crochet in 2012 and she fell in love with it right away. She has been designing her own amigurumis almost since the beginning, and now she sells her patterns so you can make them too!

Below, you can read the story of Storyland Amis.

1. How did it all begin? Tell us your story.

I’m part of a very crafty family! My grandmother did cross stitch and sewing, and my mother did cross-stitch, sewing, and embroidery. She taught me and my sisters how to do all those things. When my older sister learned how to knit and crochet, she taught me how to do those things too. I enjoyed crocheting more than knitting, so I really took off on that.

We would go as a family to local craft fairs and sell our crafts. As soon as I was old enough, I opened my own Etsy shop and started selling my amigurumi dolls and animals. I knew from the age of 17 that doing this is how I wanted to make a living! I started off selling finished amis and taking custom orders. About a year after I started my shop, I started selling my patterns as well. Now I only sell patterns!Story Land Amis - Pinguin croceht pattern

2. What inspires you?

Anything and everything! People I love and their interests, movies, books, games! I think you can find inspiration in just about everything!Story Land Amis - Nemo crochet pattern

3. How does your every day look like?

While it would be a dream to be able to only crochet for a living, I do have a part time job as a nanny! I work that job about three days a week, and the rest of the week is spent catching up on personal work and chores and working on my business, Storyland Amis. That’s when I design new things and write my patterns!Story Land Amis - Mammoth and cave boy crochet pattern

4. What is your favorite yarn?

I have quite a few favorite yarns! I’m not loyal to anyone brand and wouldn’t want to be tied down to just one brand. Some of my favorites are “I Love This Yarn” from Hobby Lobby, Paintbox Yarns from Love Crafts, and Vanna’s Choice from Lion Brand Yarn.Story Land Amis - Robot crochet pattern

5. Do you have any advice for other sellers?

Know your own worth (don’t charge too little), stand up for yourself (don’t let bossy customers push you around), just keep pushing forward little by little even when you don’t feel like it, know when to take breaks, stop comparing yourself to others, and find your own style and brand of creating! What a great interview. I am so fascinated that Holly knew what she wanted from such an early age, and she made it. To open your Etsy shop when you are 17, that is amazing.

Holly’s business is a dream come true. The realization of all her efforts and creativity back when she was a little girl working on various crafts. She puts her heart and soul into everything about Storyland Amis. And you can feel the love she puts into her work. I am sure this is the reason she is a best seller.

I think it is impressive that Holly carries on her family tradition of crafting and selling her products. I am sure they are very proud of her.

I am so grateful Holly took time in her busy schedule to answer my questions. She really is an extraordinary person. I hope that with this interview, you will get inspired and get out of your comfort zone, and start living your dream.
