It is time for another Etsy Best Sellers interview. Today I want to introduce to you Mevlinn Gusick; she is an American college graduate with a degree in Fine Arts Painting. She is the creator of MevvSan Cute Crochet store. You can find her amazing patterns and even finished toys made from her designs in her store on Etsy.

Mevlinn shared with us her story, how her day looks like, what is her favorite yarn, and she even gave advice for other sellers.

I am so glad Mevlinn Gusick took the time to answer my questions. Her patterns and finished toys are fantastic; no wonder she is a best seller.MevvSan sloth crochet pattern

After graduating, Mevlinn moved to Portugal to live with her husband. She has taken her love of art and put it into the love of yarn and created MevvSan, a place where she sells amigurumi designs. Now, not only is she able to make the most adorable amigurumi for her friends and family, but other people can do it too.

Mevlinn is so nice she even made a special discount code only for the readers of my blog. Use BESTCROCHET” at checkout for 20% off all crochet patterns for the next two weeks, from 4-17-2020 to 5-1-2020.

You can read the Interview bellow.

1. How did it all begin? Tell us your story.

I first started designing amigurumi when I was in college majoring in fine arts. It was pretty boring waiting between classes with not much to do. My aunt was the one who suggested taking up crochet as a hobby. Things really took off from there. I initially purchased a few patterns off Etsy but due to my own creativity none were ever exactly what I wanted and this drove me to make my own designs.MevvSan triceratops crochet pattern

2. What inspires you?

In broad terms, I would have to say nature inspires me. I love animals, especially birds. I’ve had parrots as companion animals ever since I was a child and couldn’t imagine living without one. Now I’m proudly owned by a black-headed caique named Mira, who I joke is like a boss to me for she has to “test” every plush that I make.MevvSan parrot crochet pattern

 3. How does your every day look like?

Since crochet is a full-time job for me I usualy wake up, take a shower, eat breakfast and then answer emails first thing in the morning. Next comes orders. Some days there are orders I need to crochet and that could take all day to complete, while other days I get to sit in front of a computer typing out new patterns, putting the text and photos into the final layout, and eventually sending these test patterns off to kind people who are willing test them for me. I would say my Etsy shop is like an iceberg, you see maybe 20% of what it takes to keep MevvSan afloat, the rest involves several cups of coffee and being hunched over a keyboard.MevvSan Flamingo crochet pattern

 4. What is your favorite yarn?

Merino wool would have to be my favorite yarn to work with, but because of its ability to stretch it’s not really good for making amigurumi so I hardly get a chance to use it. It’s rare for me to have the time between pattern design and making amigumi in order to start any personal projects.MevvSan bat crochet pattern

 5. Do you have any advice for other sellers.

My advice would be not to give up. During the first year I started selling on Etsy I only had one pattern, then three, five, now I have over 65 patterns available for purchase. As you keep working on designs and adding them to your catalog you’ll find many people who love your work. All the encouragement means a lot to me and I wouldn’t have gotten to experience any of it if I had given up.MevvSan Dinosaur Crochet Pattern

I am so grateful for Mevlinns answers. I love to get to know people behind the patterns. She is so inspiring; I think it is incredible to develop 65 patterns. I hope you enjoyed this interview as much as I did.

  1. Wow what a great story of Mevlinn, my girlfriend has recently gotten into crocheting for meditation purposes and this would be a great gift for her.  I like how she uses nature to inspire her patterns, my mom is a science teacher and about to retire, I can see this being a really good hobby for her as well.

  2. My wife is always doing Crochet and to be honest, I wished I could do it but I have tried and failed! That, however, does not stop me appreciating some wonderful creations that can be made.

It’s great that creative people can sell your products online as they look remarkable. Is Etsy the best platform to sell crafts on?

  3. Oh. My. Cuteness.  I have just shared this page with my crafty friends and I’ll definitely be ordering.  Not only are these adorable, I think they would be great to use up all those odds and ends of yarn we all end up with!  Why have I never heard of amigurumi before?!?

  4. is it not easy to come by beautiful websites like this and articles that can reach out to you in great ways. i know that this article will be of great help to so many people just as it has been of great help to me. i would like to share this article with some of  my friends. thank you very much.

  5. It is really amazing how nature inspires me also. i also draw motivation from natural habitat as the beauty of nature can not be described in words or writing. i am still new to crochet though but i am learning fast and more practice will make me better. i want to thank you for creating this article
